| Saturday Night Showcase, June 10 - The crowd roared approval for US National Stallion Enzo. Following the precision driving demonstration by Olympic Gold Medalist Fritz Gruppe, Enzo took charge of the event. Enzo galloped and danced at the end of his lead in circles around the giant arena in the masterful hands of his trainer Greg Gallun, his brilliant copper coat glinting in the golden glow of the California sunset. The rapport between the stallion and trainer was impressive, and the 4000 member crowd cheered without stopping throughout the presentation. Enzo's gregarious disposition was shown earlier at the barn party where he happily greeted crowds and enjoyed presenting himself proudly, making him an ideal ambassador for the breed.
Enzo has sired some of the most promising youngsters now competing on the Arabian circuit. For information on ENZO, visit www.enzoltd.com Photos & Text by Irene Deem, Cochair, Region 3 Horse Expo Committee |

TRAVIS MAHONEY WINS CALCUTTA WITH WL INTRUDER+++/ JUMPING BAREBACK AND BRIDLELESS
First $1000 Prize Calcutta a hit - crowd gets it! The announcer flubbed the script, but the audience got it anyway! Picking up on the American Idol format, they cheered enthusiastically for each of the Arabian horse, all of whom have national titles. 12 horses competed, 9 of them stallions, in a spectacular display of beauty, superb temperament and athletic ability. On the first go round judges Edie Lehman and Laura Doran selected the top five. Then they asked the audience to pick the winner. The audience cheered so loudly for each horse a second go round was needed to identify the winner! Participants were encouraged to ham it up for the audience and our competitors had a blast outdoing each other. Photo left: Travis Mahoney jumping the 4 time National Champion Working Hunter stallion WL Intruder ++/ - bareback and bridleless. Note: he did this with 9 other horses, 7 of them stallions, going in different directions at different speeds, one of them roping, and a roaring crowd of 4000 spectators. The crowd was impressed enough to select Travis and "Snoopy" as the winner! Learn more about this stallion at www.tammymcdonaldtraining.com. |

Arabians can shine in the combined driving circuit. Arabians under 15 h can compete as horses or ponies, and the forward attitude, endurance traits and agility of the breed makes them strong contendors in this Olympic event.

| In addition to our daily breed presentations and our participation in the Saturday Night Showcase, we had two noted Arabian trainers giving clinics, Edie Lehman doing Show Trail and Deborah Johnson doing Sidesaddle. Deborah explained the necessary safety requisites for this style of riding, and her riders demonstrated the grace and beauty of the tradition. Riding with Deborah were Shelly Lowe with TA Aurora Bey+/, Nancy Kubeck with SWA Shamrock Bey, Tammy McDonald with the stallion PH Promiscuous+ and Roberta Dixon and Mark of Shai+/. Deborah Johnson is a professor of speech communications and did a superb job of presenting the history, techniques and beauty of sidesaddle riding. | |

Edie Lehman was also one of our judges in the Saturday Night Calcutta and judges other breeds, bringing a broad perspective to her clinics. Some people think Arabians are hot tempered and ill suited for show trail; they are amazed to see the calm poise and intelligence response of the Arabian in this discipline.
Equestrian Sport is a primarily a social experience; people often choose their breed and riding discpline based on the crowd, the clothes, the social image associated with the sport. Having our charismatic professionals at the Horse Expo is an excellent way to attract new interest in the breed. |

Barn Party 4:30 Saturday June 10
Our barn area featured a shaded grassy area with a trellis, ideal for our party. Our beautiful banners featuring our farms and stallions decorated the trellis. We enjoyed comfortable temperatures for the season, custom wine labels featured the participating horses, fresh red roses decorated our tables and carried out our theme "An American Classic." Greg Gallun presented Enzo and CA Hermoso, guests studied our beautiful stallions, enjoyed some sandwiches and wine, and before we knew it, it was time to get ready for our evening performance! Thanks to all our volunteers who helped. Want to get involved for 2007? It's a blast - get on the committee and help us build this event into a bigger and better Arabian promotion. The formula is to have audience involvement, great horses and great people. Equestrian sport is a social experience - the key to breed promotion is providing a quality social and equestrian experience. We are looking for people who have successful sales, hospitality/catering and entertainment industry experience in addition to a strong Arabian industry background to help develop this promotion. |

| Special thanks to SUE JOHNSON for her role in making the Banner Program a success. The redoubtable Mrs. Johnson cruised the AHANC show and brought in 19 checks in one blow! SUE and MARTIN JOHNSON also served at the Horse Expo tirelessly, providing transportation with their golf cart, expertise in managing horses, and maintaining order of go and organization in the breed demonstrations, side saddle clinics and Saturday night's Calcutta. In addition, Sue traveled to each of the planning meetings for the Horse Expo committee, providing years of experience and a deep love of the breed to help bring the quality of this breed demonstration to its current standard. Thank you Sue and Martin!!! | ||

New: Region 3 website has clickable map to help visitors find Region 3 Arabian Trainers & Breeders - check it out to make sure you are on this list. 60,000 visitors saw our ad in the WSHE Program. 4000 people saw us perform on Saturday night; 300 people saw us daily in the breed demos. How will they find your program? Make sure you are on the list! Remember, the largest market segment is the equestrian public not yet involved in the Arabian breed. How much do you spend targeting this market? Breed promotion is part of the solution, but we all need to participate and become more visible in the larger equestrian picture. |

Special thanks to Western States Horse Expo CEO Miki Cohen for giving us time on Saturday night in front of a 4000 member audience to present Enzo and our First Calcutta! Special thanks also to Brent Stone, Philip Del Pozo, Greg and Nancy Gallun for hauling Enzo all the way from Santa Ynez, and to Priscilla Richardson and Bill Normington, Bill and Barbara Porcher for hauling CA Hermoso also from Santa Ynez. Having the leading stallions of the breed at our breed promotion is a great honor and a wonderful way to motivate new interest in the Arabian horse. Thank you to all the participants who performed not only to the highest show standards, but added their own entertainment value to their rides, keeping the crowd cheering throughout the event! Thank you to our endurance, competitive trail and recreational riders who completed the picture of Arabian versatility and the fun opportunities that await the Arabian owner. We also thank our hard working committee and volunteers, and people who came out to cheer for our Arabians! We had a wonderful time and we look forward to another fabulous breed presentation in 2007! We invite you all to get involved! Chairs: Irene Deem; irenedeem@comcast.net, 707 869-3751, and Deborah Johnson, djtraining@earthlink.net; 775 720 3548.
